Rabat – A heatwave is expected to strike several provinces across Morocco from Tuesday to Thursday, a new weather alert has announced.

The General Directorate of Meteorology issued a new orange-level weather alert today, forecasting temperatures ranging between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius in the provinces of Aousserd, Oued Eddahad, Boujdour, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, and Zagora.

Temperatures will range between 43 and 45 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday in the provinces of Sidi Slimane, El Kelaa Sraghna, Marrakech, and Rehamna.

The same weather will affect Khemisset, Youssoufia, Fquih Ben Salah, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Settat, Chichaoua, Taroudant, and Beni Mellal.

Temperatures will also range from 40 to 43 in several regions, including the North and central Morocco, in addition to the South.

The temperatures will concern Larache, Ouezzane, Guelmim, Meknes, Taouante, Khouribga, Sefrou, Benslimane, Berrechid, Essaouira, Nouacheur, Sidi Bennour, Safi, El Hajeb, Khenfira, and Fez.

Moulay Yaacoub and the inland areas of the provinces of Tan-Tan, Tarfaya, and Laayoune will similarly experience temperatures between 40 and 43.

Temperatures between 33 and 37 are meanwhile expected to affect the provinces of Skhirat-Temara, Sale, El Jadida, and Ifrane.

Morocco has been experiencing high temperatures, including in Rabat, where temperatures have reached up to 37 degrees.

The situation has prompted urgent measures from Morocco’s Health Ministry, which recently urged citizens to avoid going outdoors during the hottest hours of the day.

The ministry also called on citizens to wear light clothing and avoid physical exertion, stressing that families and relatives should check on elderly or sick individuals and ensure they are hydrated.

In addition, the ministry’s statement emphasized that anyone experiencing symptoms such as higher fever, unusual fatigue, dizziness, headaches, intense thirst, muscle cramps, confusion, unusual drowsiness, redness or restlessness should seek medical attention immediately at the nearest healthcare facility to receive appropriate treatment.
