Rabat – While some Moroccan-French celebrities have been torn between supporting either Morocco or France at the Qatar World Cup, the decision seems to have been easy for Gad Emaleh.
The French-Moroccan comedian stressed that he would, without a doubt, support his country of birth — Morocco — if the two countries were to lock horns at the tournament’s semi-finals.
“I support Morocco, I support my country of birth,” Elmaleh said in an interview with RMC, stressing that he is certain that the national team will continue making history at the tournament.
“I totally see them (the Moroccan squad) going to the final,” Elmaleh emphasized.
Meanwhile, French-Moroccan comedian Jamal Debbouze said that he would be torn between supporting Morocco or France. “It would be like if my father played against my mother,” he joked in a recent interview with BeIN Sports.
“I want to see this game but I’m nervous because I don’t know how to live this moment between Morocco and France,” Debbouze said in the interview. “It’s a very complicated dilemma.”
Morocco is set to face off against Portugal today at the Al Thumama stadium as part of the World Cup’s quarter-finals.
While a rejuvenated Portugal team appears to be the favorite in most predictions, hopes are high for the Moroccan squad to maintain the strong performance they have displayed throughout the tournament.
Speaking at a press conference before the match, Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui said he was determined to successfully lead the North African squad to the next stage of the tournament.
“We want to go down in history … with the mindset we’ve had from the start, with the quality of our performance,” he stressed.
