Rabat- The European Union (EU) and Morocco have touted cooperation between the two parties, particularly on trade activities.
Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch received on Thursday in Rabat Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Borrell is on a two-day visit to discuss bilateral cooperation and means to strengthen relations between the two parties at all levels, particularly in security and trade.
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation between Morocco and the EU, a statement from the head of government’s office said that the level of trade between the two parties has now reached more than €45 billion (around $48 billion) “and tripled in [the past] ten years.”
The level of trade between the two parties has enabled Morocco to position itself as the EU’s first economic and commercial partner on the African continent, Akhannouch stressed.
Akhannouch and Borrell also discussed bilateral relations and the “joint desire to deepen dialogue and cooperation, within the framework of the strategic partnership established between Morocco and the EU, to which King Mohammed VI attaches particular importance.”
The head of government stressed the importance of relations between the two parties, saying that such cooperation “made it possible to structure the partnership between the two parties and improve it at different levels.”
The areas for development include agriculture, fisheries, investment, green economy, among others.
Borrell is also set to meet with other senior officials, including Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita.
The two officials are also expected to give a press briefing following their meeting.
