Rabat – The UK and Morocco have pledged to further strengthen bilateral ties at all levels, including military cooperation.
Abdeltif Loudyi, Minister Delegate in charge of the National Defense Administration, received in Rabat today Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren OBE, the UK’s Senior Military Adviser for the Middle East and North Africa.
The meeting was held in accordance with the High Instructions of King Mohammed VI, and served as a new platform for both officials to renew their commitment to stronger military cooperation.
During the meeting, the two officials reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation, including military training programs.
Loudyi emphasized Morocco’s approach and initiatives as part of its efforts to promote regional stability and peace.
During the meeting, the British military official commended King Mohammed VI’s leadership, describing Morocco as a key actor for peace and stability, especially in the MENA region.
The two countries hold similar meetings through the exchange of visits by Moroccan and UK officials, with strategic goals to counter regional security challenges.
The two countries aim to improve troop interoperability as well as build on regular joint military exercises, like the Jbel Sahara drills held in October 2025.
Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces conducted the military drill with the British Army in the Ramram military zone near Marrakech, reflecting the military cooperation between the two countries.
Morocco conducts similar joint exercises with international partners, including the US and France.
Last year, the French government lauded a military exercise titled Chergui military maneuver with Morocco.
The French cabinet said the exercise “highlights Franco-Moroccan military cooperation.” The drill included members of the 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment, as well as a command module from the airmobile brigade.
Morocco also hosts African Lion, the largest annual joint military exercise on the African continent, as part of Rabat’s partnership with the US.
