Rabat- The Atlas Lions topped the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Top 10 Movers list.
FIFA named Morocco the year’s biggest climbers in the ranking, noting that the North African country moved up 17 spots from December 2021.
Morocco gained 142.42 points over the past 12 months, followed by Croatia, Argentina, Gambia, and the Netherlands.
Meanwhile, Costa Rica ranked sixth place, Cameroon ranked seventh, and Japan ranked eighth.
Equatorial Guinea and Australia came in ninth and tenth position, respectively.
The Atlas Lions made history when they qualified for the 2022 World Cup semi-finals. The qualification made Morocco the first African and Arab country to make it so far in World Cup history.
Morocco is currently the 11th-best football team in the world and the first-best team in Africa, according to the latest FIFA ranking.
The soccer world’s governing body recognized Morocco’s uplifting and brilliant performances during the global tournament on many occasions.
FIFA shared a video on their Facebook page, describing Morocco as “Africa’s most successful team ever.”
Meanwhile, FIFA’s President Gianni Infantino told the press that Morocco “played great, great football, and we must praise Morocco’s performance.”
The historic achievement of Africa’s most successful team is expected to considerably impact the future of Moroccan, African, and Arab football, encouraging the underdog teams to dream and put an end to Europe and South America’s dominance over the World Cup.
