Rabat – The New York Times has featured Essaouira’s tourism assets, such as its art galleries, guesthouses and “blossoming design scene,” which has attracted many productions, including HBO’s epic series Game of Thrones.

In an article published on December 29, the newspaper offered readers a travel itinerary to explore the city and its must-see destinations.

The newspaper specifically recommends that people visit Bayt Dakira, or the House of Memory, a historical landmark of Morocco’s Jewish community in Essaouira.

Bayt Dakira is located in the city’s “Mellah,” historically the neighborhood with the highest concentration of Jewish communities within Moroccan cities.

The NY Times also recommends visiting the Port of Essaouira to discover the coastal city’s “distinctive blue fishing boats” and fish markets.

The travel list additionally includes spots like Salut Maroc hotel, Dar Baba’s restaurant, and Le Real Mogador art gallery.

The coastal city, known for its music festivals as well as its beautiful architecture, rich history, and windy beaches, is one of Morocco’s most popular tourist destinations.

The tourism sector in Essaouira has recently seen hotel bookings sell out, finishing off a promising year for tourism in the coastal city.

In 2022, the “city of wind” became the first destination to be labeled as “creative friendly” in Morocco and the African continent, with the  Creative Tourism Network (CTN) recognizing the Moroccan city’s rich history of promoting arts and socio-cultural diversity.
