Rabat – Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, headed by King Mohammed VI, has launched a multidisciplinary medical caravan in the Moroccan city of Ouarzazate, for the benefit of the population affected by the ongoing cold snap and heavy snowfall.
The medical caravan, which started off in the town of Tidili on Wednesday, is part of the emergency intervention and solidarity campaign launched by King Mohammed VI to assist those impacted by the harsh weather conditions.
Carried out in collaboration with the provincial delegation of Health and Social Protection in Ouarzazate, the two-day operation seeks to bring health services closer to those living in mountainous areas and remote villages.
Speaking to Maghreb Arab Press (MAP), Abderrahman Saber, Head of the project development unit at the Mohammed V Foundation, said that the medical campaign offers consultations in general medicine, gynecology, ophthalmology, and gastroenterology.
The campaign includes a mobile laboratory to conduct on-site testing for the patients, as well as a mobile radiology unit and various mobile medical units.
The initiative has mobilized medical staff including over 40 general doctors, specialists, and paramedics for the benefit of the population.

More than 1,000 people from the affected villages have benefited from the medical campaign during its first day, said Badiaa El Abdellaoui, the provincial delegate of Health and Social Protection in Ouarzazate.
In parallel to the medical campaign, which will move on to the town of Imi N’oulouane, the foundation has mobilized helicopters to carry out emergency interventions, such as delivering aid to families in remote areas.
The foundation announced last week the launching of an “emergency aid operation” in the provinces of Zagora, Ouarzazate, and Taroudant, which witnessed heavy snowfall and a significant drop in temperatures, leaving many people stranded.
These initiatives came after widespread outrage and frustration among Moroccans, who criticized the government and local authorities’ unresponsiveness to the affected population’s desperate calls for help.
After heavy snowfall and a wave of cold temperatures hit the regions of Zagora and Ouarzazate, videos of stranded people stuck in more than a meter of snow surfaced, with residents pleading for immediate help and assistance.
