Rabat – Sevilla FC goalkeeper and Moroccan international Yassine Bounou confirmed on Tuesday that he had offers from other clubs over the January transfer window, but expressed that he could not leave his club.
Speaking to Spanish outlet AS, Bounou said that after talking to his agent he decided to stay at the Spanish club.
“There was some talk with some teams, but [along] with my agent I did not feel it was the right time to go and tell Monchi [director of football at Sevilla] that I needed to leave… I didn’t feel it,” he told AS.
“Because of the situation and where we are, I did not want to leave at a time like this,” he detailed.
Sevilla are currently having one of their most challenging campaigns in Spain’s top flight, La Liga. The team is only four points above the relegation zone, and could face relegation to the second division if form dips.
“If someone else comes that Sevilla is happy with, it’s another situation, but for me to go… no, no,” AS quoted the keeper as saying.
“I am happy here, I feel that the best footballers put the needs of their employer before their own personal goals,” he continued to assert his commitment to Sevilla.
Bounou showed stellar performances during the 2022 World Cup, helping Morocco reach a historic fourth place finish. The keeper conceded only five goals throughout the tournament, keeping a clean sheet against formidable teams like Belgium, Spain, and Portugal.
Following the competition, several clubs showed interest in the Moroccan goalkeeper, including Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United.

Recent reports indicate that those teams are likely to go back to Sevilla in the summer transfer window to make another bid for the keeper.
Several Moroccan players saw their market value increase after the World Cup, with several top clubs like FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain pursuing some of the squad’s members.
