Rabat – King Mohammed VI sent a message of condolences to UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan following the death of his mother-in-law Sheikha Maryam bint Abdullah bin Sulayem Al Falasi.

The Moroccan monarch said he learned of the news of her passing “with deep sorrow and emotion,” adding that he expresses his “deep condolences and sincere compassion” to the Emirati president.

He also extended his condolences to the rest of the family and those who were close to the deceased.

Sheikha Maryam bint Abdullah bin Sulayem Al Falasi passed away on Thursday, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

She was the mother of Sheikha Salama bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, who is the president’s wife.

The funeral took place on Thursday as well, with Sheikhs and sons of the deceased performing the funeral prayer along with several UAE citizens.

The country’s president also accepted condolences from the Sheikhs and members of the public during a mourning gathering on Friday.

Sheikha Maryam’s body was taken to the Al Bateen Cemetery in Abu Dhabi, her final resting place.
