Morocco’s Atlas Lions Extend Support to Turkiye, Syria Following Tragic Earthquake

Rabat – Players of the Moroccan national team have joined the growing chorus of worldwide voices expressing solidarity with and support for Turkiye and Syria following a devastating earthquake on Monday.

Morocco’s Atlas Lion Achraf Hakimi shared a tweet to express solidarity with people in Syria and Turkiye, saying: “Our hearts are with you.”

Moroccan football player Bilal El Khanouss made a similar support gesture in an Instagram story featuring a photo of German-Turkish football player Mesut Ozil.

In the caption, El Khanouss put flags of Turkiye and Syria to extend his support and solidarity to the families of the victims.

Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui also posted a similar post, showing Syrian and Turkish flags with “prayers” emojis.

Morocco’s national football team captain Romain Saiss also posted an Instagram story to express his solidarity with the victims of the devastating earthquake.

In an Instagram story, Moroccan football player Jawad El Yamiq offered his condolences and wished speedy recovery to the people who sustained injuries in the tragedy.

“May allah protect our Moroccan diaspora and everyone,” he wrote.

The powerful tremor hit southern Turkiye and northern Syria early in the morning today.

Converging reports indicated that the tragic tremor has killed more than 2,300 people as rescue teams continue to race to save lives in both countries.

Thousands of people were also left injured.

The news on the earthquake left the world reeling and frustrated. Condolences and sympathy messages are pouring from across the world.

Egypt, Oman, Russia, Algeria, Pakistan, among many other countries offered their condolences and support to Turkiye and Syria.

Earlier today, Morocco announced establishing two crisis cell in Turkiye and Syria to help members of the Moroccan diaspora affected by the earthquake.
