Rabat – A tragic road traffic accident on March 29, resulted in the death of five people and caused 27 injuries, 12 of which suffered severe injuries, in Brachoua in the Khemisset Province.

The accident took place at douar Bounjaja (commune of Brachoua), where the driver lost control of his vehicle before colliding with a tree.

The local authorities and civil protection services were notified immediately and took the necessary steps to transport the injured to the local hospital, where several medical staff and nurses were mobilized to care for the injured victims.

Meanwhile, five victims had to be transferred to Rabat’s Ibn Sina hospital to receive the necessary medical attention.

Authorities launched an investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office to determine the circumstances of this accident.

Morocco’s National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) reports an average of 3,600 road accident fatalities and 150,000 injuries each year, as well as more than MAD 20 billion ($1.95 billion) in material losses from road accidents.

Morocco launched a national road control plan in 2022.

The 2022-2024 national road control plan, which is part of the 2017-2026 national road safety strategy, aims to identify priority monitoring areas–areas with a high rate of traffic accidents–and provide advanced and efficient monitoring equipment.

NARSA also launched a fixed radar operation to monitor violations of the legal speed limit, drivers that ignore red lights, and other types of traffic violations.
