Rabat – A British court has charged a 28-year-old man with two counts of attempted murder following his heinous attacks against two Muslim men leaving mosques in separate horrific incidents in Birmingham and London.
AlJazeera reported today that the suspect allegedly sprayed a substance on two elderly men aged 70 and 82 on February 27 and on March 20 in separate attacks.
The first attack, which took place on February 27 in West London, saw the suspect spraying a liquid on the man before setting him alight. The man suffered burns to his arms and face.
The second attack took place on March 20, when the suspect sprayed the 70-year-old man in Birmingham with a substance and set his jacket alight. The victim also suffered severe injuries.
A surveillance camera captured the suspect arguing with the elderly victim who was attacked while walking home from a mosque.
Police said that the suspect spoke to the victim before spraying him with an unknown substance and set his jacket alight, causing burns to his face.
Counterterrorism officials have been called upon to help with the investigation.
“This was a joint investigation between West Midlands Police, Counter Terrorism Policing and the Metropolitan Police,” West Midlands Police said in a statement.
