Rabat – The first day of the holy month of Ramadan is set to fall on Wednesday, March 22, according to early astrological projections.
According to a report from Tunisia’s National Institute of Meteorology, the crescent moon is expected to be visible in the country on Tuesday, March 21 at 6 p.m. local time, marking Wednesday the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, and Muslims mark it by fasting for the whole month from daybreak to sunset. It is the ninth month in the Lunar calendar.
Throughout the month, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking among other practices. Ramadan carries huge religious significance as Muslims perceive the month as an opportunity to renew their faith and undertake more charity.
The month is marked by lengthy daily prayers before the Fajr prayers (the first of the five daily prayers in Islam performed at daybreak) and after the Isha prayers (the last of the five daily prayers performed at night).
