Rabat – The car manufacturer Renault Group unveiled on Friday in Casablanca its first hybrid model “Dacia Jogger” and announced plans to launch production at its Tangier plant in northern Morocco in the second quarter of 2024.
The group made the announcement during a press conference attended, among other high-ranking figures, by Morocco’s Industry and Trade Minister, Ryad Mezzour; the CEO of Dacia, Denis Le Vot; and the CEO of Renault Group Morocco, Mohamed Bachiri.
The new line of production is expected to produce up to 120,000 vehicles and marks a precedent for Morocco in the manufacturing of hybrid cars. Converging reports indicate that the production is set to use thirty robots for assembly operations.
Given the novelty of the production line, the Renault Group announced that it would provide 550 Moroccan workers with 6,000 hours of training to successfully integrate them into the plant.
Welcoming the manufacturing project, Morocco’s Trade and Industry Minister, Ryad Mezzour, said that it “opens the way for Morocco’s automotive ecosystem to new areas with high technological value and high impact for Moroccan skills.”
He added: “This project reinforces Morocco’s industrial ambition to succeed in the transition towards electrification and sustainable mobility and to position itself as the most competitive automotive hub on a global scale.”
For his part, Dacia’s CEO, Denis Le Vot, said that “the manufacturing of the Jogger at the Tangier plant will bring additional expertise and a significant increase in qualifications for all employees.”
The Tangier industrial zone “is proving to be industrially efficient,” the Dacia executive noted, adding that “this new model will strengthen and enrich the success story of the Dacia brand in Morocco.”
