Rabat – A new heatwave is expected to hit several provinces across Morocco from Tuesday to Friday.
Temperatures will reach up to 44 degrees Celsius in some provinces, according to the Directorate General of Meteorology (DMN).
Temperatures between 37 and 41 degrees will concern Taroudant, Inezegane-Ait Melloul, Agadir Ida Ou Tanane, Chtouka Ait Baha, Feqih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, and Sidi Bennour.
The same weather will affect Safi, Settat, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Kelaa des Sraghna, Youssoufia, Rehamna, Sidi Slimane, Sidi Kacem, Smara, Assa-Zag, and Tata.
Record temperatures ranging between 37 and 41 degrees will also affect cities in northern and central Morocco.
The weather will affect Larach, Ouazzane, Meknes, Fez, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Khemisset, Keitra, Kouribga, and Settat from Wednesday to Friday.
Temperatures between 41 and 44 degrees will hit Taroudant, Inzegane Ait Melloul, Agadir Ida Outanane, Chtouka Ait Baha, Tiznit, Tata, Assa-Zag, Guelmim, Smara, Tantan, Sidi Slimane, and Sidi Kacem.
Similar weather in Morocco is normal during spring when temperatures increase compared to the previous months.
In the last couple of years, Morocco witnessed a dramatic change in its climate due to drought and lack of downpours.
The North African country has been experiencing the severest drought in the past three decades, affecting its agricultural output.
Drought caused a decrease of 67% in Morocco’s cereal production in the 2021-22 season compared to the previous campaign.
