Rabat – Casablanca’s renowned clubs Raja CA and Wydad AC have passed the round of 16 of Morocco’s Throne Cup on April 12 to qualify to the quarter-finals.
Raja had a goalless draw with Hassania Agadir but won the penalty shootout 5-3, while Wydad overcame IR Tangier and won 3-1 to secure their spot in the top eight.
In the next round, Raja will lock horns with Chabab Mohammedia and Wydad AC will play against Difaa El Jadidi in an attempt to guarantee a place in the semi-finals.
Additionally, Chabab Houara will face off against RS Berkane, while Rabat rivals AS FAR and FUS Rabat will face off in a derby.
The Throne Cup is a football tournament organized by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation since 1956.
The cup sees 32 clubs compete in a knockout style tournament.
The champion of the tournament’s last version (in the 2020-21 season) was RS Berkane.
FAR Rabat has the most trophies from the tournament with 12 trophies, followed by Wydad with nine trophies, and Raja with eight.
The tournament’s champion secures an automatic qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup, the second-tier of African club football after the CAF Champions League.
