Rabat – Fashion event “La Mode en Capitale” is set to take place in the Moroccan capital Rabat on May 26, 27, and 30, promising a combination of elegance, refinement, ancestral traditions, and contemporary fashion.

Proposed by renowned Moroccan fashion designer Fadila El Gadi, the event serves as a “grand finale” to the “Rabat, African Capital of Culture” program, indicated the organizers in a press release.

Organized by the Fadila El Gadi Foundation in partnership with the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the event will take place at the gardens of Chellah, “one of Rabat’s most magical spaces,” as well as other venues across the city.

The organizers highlighted the Moroccan designer’s ability to seamlessly blend the “exquisite refinement of Moroccan embroidery with the fluidity of contemporary cuts and the most precious fabrics.”

In addition, they described her as “the guardian of this ancestral art, propelling it into modernity without altering its authenticity.”

Throughout the event, El Gadi will pay tribute to Morocco’s rich heritage and craftsmanship, notably the unmatched skills of “Tarz Rbati” (Rabat embroidery) artisans. La Mode en Capitale will bring together fashion designers, artisans, and embroiderers.

In addition, it will be an opportunity for young designers like Amal El Bahri, Bouchra Salih, and Rajae Errais Madi to showcase their work in a fashion show.

The event will also present a retrospective photographic exhibition, tracing El Gadi’s artistic journey, as well as the works of aspiring artisans from the Embroidery School of Sale.

The organizers stressed that the event is “more than just a fashion show,” promising a captivating live performance where El Gadi “merges sounds, lights, and her timeless designs”.

In a nod to her Sahrawi roots, the designer will infuse her culture with a “natural elegance and subtle modernity, giving her creations a certain timeless and contemporary charm,” added the statement.

The grand finale of the event will pay tribute to Sahrawi women, featuring live performances by a group of female Sahrawi musicians.
