Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Morocco’s head coach, Said Chiba, as TotalEnergies U17 AFCON Best Coach describing him as the “leader” and the “mastermind”
CAF took to Twitter to announce the news, sharing a photograph of the head coach. Despite his team’s heartbreaking 2-1 loss against Senegal in the tournament, Chiba remained full of praise for his players, emphasizing their honorable performance.
“Our players gave an honorable performance. We thank everyone for their great support, starting with the King who has been our number one fan. We thank the Academies and all the technical centers that prepared these players,” CAF quoted Chiba as saying.

Although the loss in the final was undoubtedly difficult for the young players, Chiba acknowledged the harsh reality of football and encouraged his team to embrace the experience, “The result is harsh on the players at this age but we will take it in. This is football and I told them that I am proud of their performance,” he said.

Chiba described the final match as a “tough” and “highly competitive” encounter, showcasing the quality and skill of both teams. Despite falling short of victory, he congratulated Senegal for their impressive performance and acknowledged their status as a formidable opponent.
Looking ahead, Chiba emphasized the significance of learning from the tournament and addressing any identified weaknesses. He expressed his team’s determination to utilize the lessons learned to enhance their performance in the upcoming World Cup.
The Moroccan head coach regarded their participation in the tournament as a great honor and a valuable opportunity to represent Africa with pride and distinction on the global stage.“We are going to the World Cup a better team and we will try to represent Africa to the best of our ability, because this is a great honor,” he said.
Morocco’s U17 national football team received high praise from King Mohammed VI following their final game against Senegal. The King spoke with Chiba and the team on a phone call, extending his heartfelt congratulations to the players, as well as the technical and administrative staff, for their exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
