Rabat – At the end of the second day competition in athletics held on Wednesday at the Grand Stade in Marrakech, the Moroccan national athletics team maintained the first place in the overall standings of the Arab Championships.
It was a fruitful day, during which Moroccan athletes added 16 new medals to their tally: 5 gold, 8 silver, and 3 bronze, bringing the total number of Moroccan medals to 25.
Moroccan athletes participating at the 23rd Arab Athletics Championships continue to lead the way. After dominating on the first day of competition, the members of the national athletics team continued their raid on medals on the second day.
The five new gold medals went to Abdelatif Sadiki in the 1,500 meters run, Mohamed Moussaid (3,000 meters steeplechase), Salma Lahlali (400 meters), Assia Raziki (800 meters), and Rhizlane Siba (high jump).
Silver went to Mohamed Koussi specialized in the 110 meter hurdles, Hicham Aguengam (1,500 meters), Salaheddine Ben Yazide (3,000 meters steeplechase), Noura Ennadi (100 meter hurdles), Sara El Hachimi (400 m), Soukaïna Hajji (800 m), Maria Khafiane (high jump), and Safaa Meskani (Heptathlon).
New bronze medals were in favor of Doha Rizki who participated in the 100 meter hurdles race, Jihane Mrabet (discus throw), and Dounia Bamous (heptathlon). In the provisional overall ranking.
Morocco remains in first place, followed by Egypt in second with 13 medals (6 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze), and Qatar with 4 medals (3 gold and 1 silver).
Following these new performances by Moroccan athletes, the National Technical Director (DTN) of the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation (FRMA), Abdellah Boukraa, stated that the results recorded by Morocco confirm its domination in the athletics discipline at Arab level.
Boukraa also said that the participation of Moroccan athletes in the Arab Championships and the forthcoming “Jeux de la Francophonie” in Kinshasa represent good preparation for the upcoming World Championships in Budapest in 2023 and the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
