Rabat – Premier League club Chelsea FC is reportedly facing challenges over the potential sale of Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech.
Sports news outlet Give Me Sport said that the London club could find it difficult to convince another club to pay over £37 million for Ziyech during the summer transfer window.
Chelsea reportedly wants £30 million for Ziyech, who still has two years remaining on his contract. This means that if a club is interested, they need to pay for the remaining years of the contract, which is worth £100,000 per week.
The situation poses a real challenge for Chelsea’s new coach Mauricio Pochettino, sports journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport.
Following a disappointing season where the Blues finished in the bottom half of the table, Chelsea is expected to sell several players in order to cut down a bloated squad and stay within budget.
The journalist, however, believes that Chelsea “may have to lower their expectations” if they want to sell Ziyech.
PSG is reportedly planning to make a fresh offer to secure a deal with Ziyech over the summer.
The French club was close to securing a loan deal for the Moroccan international during the January transfer window.
However, Chelsea failed to submit the necessary paperwork three times, only sending it after the deadline for registering players had passed.
Fans and critics have heavily criticized Chelsea for benching Ziyech despite his potential to help the English club.
Interest in the Atlas Lion has increased following his performances during the 2022 World Cup, where he helped Morocco become the first African and Arab nation to make it to the tournament’s semi-finals.
In addition to PSG, several clubs also reportedly want to sign the Atlas Lion, including AC Milan and Inter Milan.
