Rabat – UM6P Ventures, the investment arm of Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), and Moroccan e-commerce application Chari have joined forces to promote digital and financial inclusion across French-speaking Africa.

The two parties signed an agreement on the sidelines of the GITEX Africa Digital Summit, stressing their readiness to explore new partnership opportunities to strengthen support for startups in the region.

The summit is taking place in Marrakech between May 31 and June 2, convening 900 tech companies, 30 government entities, 250 investors, start-ups, big tech, and youth from more than 100 countries.

“Both parties commit to collaborating to define the terms and conditions of this partnership, with the goal of fostering sustainable growth and the harmonious development of entrepreneurial ecosystems,” UM6P said in a press release.

Through the partnership, UM6P’s secure and technologically advanced Data Center will host Chari’s infrastructure and its subsidiaries, with the aim of ensuring the safety, availability, and confidentiality of data while adhering to international protection standards.

The collaboration is poised to bolster Chari’s position as a major player in e-commerce within French-speaking Africa, noted the statement.

In addition, UM6P Ventures and Chari are keen to support the financial and digital inclusion of small-scale farmers across the African continent.

They will do so by developing and implementing digital initiatives seeking to facilitate market access, enhance management capabilities, as well as foster financial inclusion in agriculture, a key sector for the continent’s economy.

The agreement also focuses on talent development, with the two parties set to invest in training programs to enhance the skills of employees of Chari and its subsidiaries.

UM6P Ventures and Chari pledged to support these “promising talents” in their professional development by “strengthening their expertise and enabling them to seize the opportunities offered by the digital economy.”

The partnership will also foster integration between academia and the industry, offering UM6P students valuable opportunities through internship and recruitment programs.

For UM6P Venture, the ongoing GITEX Africa summit was an opportunity to share its commitment to promoting entrepreneurship and accelerating innovations in Morocco and Africa.

By connecting the largest tech companies and startups in the world, the event aims to integrate Africa into the global tech ecosystem and entrepreneurial innovation economy.
