Rabat – Al Ahly fans attacked Wydad AC players while heading to their changing rooms at the Cairo International Stadium, after the CAF Champions League final between the two teams.
The Egyptian fans started throwing bottles and hurling insults at the Moroccan players, while they kept a calm temper trying to head to the changing rooms.
Despite Al Ahly trying to calm down their fans and get them to stop provoking the opponents, the attempts seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
A video of the incident went viral online with a social media user describing the attacks as “immoral behavior.”
Wydad, who were champions in last year’s edition, lost to Al Ahly 2-1 in the first leg of the final on Sunday.
South African forward Percy Tau scored the first goal for the Egyptian team during stoppage time of the first half, and Mahmoud Abdel Moneim, known among fans as Kahraba, scored the second goal at the 59th minute.
After that came the goal for Wydad by Siff Eddine Bouhara who scored in the 86th minute. The return leg between the two giants of African football is set to take place next Sunday at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca at 20:00 p.m.
