Rabat – The players of the U-23 Moroccan national football team, the Atlas Cubs, and their staff are determined to succeed in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted in Morocco.
The Moroccan squad are training in Mohammed VI Football Complex ahead of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from June 24 to July 8.
“Our aim is to win the Cup and qualify for the 2024 Olympics. We’re training to fine-tune our automatics, and we’ll be ready for the competition,” said Ismael Saibari, who plays for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven as an attacking midfielder.
His teammate Oussama Targhalline, Le Havre AC’s midfielder, shared the same sentiment, declaring that he and his teammates aim to lift the trophy in their homeland and bring the title home to Moroccan fans.
National coach Issame Charai is delighted with the progress of the preparations, saying he is happy with the players who will take part in the tournament.
“We have opted for quality because, besides playing in the CAN, we have to prepare the future of Moroccan football,” Chairi said.
The Atlas Cubs will play two friendly matches against the A selections teams —Mauritania on June 15 and Zambia four days later at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Earlier this month, Charai, announced the list of players taking part in the AFCON Morocco 2023.
Twenty-six players were selected by the national team coach, including Atlas Lions Bilal El Khannouss, Abde Ezzalzouli, and Chadi Riad.
All the twenty-six names were displayed on June 9 by a press release from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
