Rabat – Morocco’s national football team has secured the 13th position in the latest FIFA ranking, reaffirming its status as one of the top teams in the world.

While this represents a decline of two spots from its previous ranking as the 11th best national football team, Morocco remains the highest-ranked African team.

Senegal is the second-best football team on the continent, followed by Tunisia and Algeria.

On a global scale, Argentina holds the coveted top spot in the FIFA rankings, with France trailing closely behind in second place.

Brazil secures the third spot, while England and Belgium claim the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

FIFA, among other international organizations, continues to commend Morocco for its remarkable performance during the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar.

The Atlas Lions delivered awe-inspiring and uplifting performances that captivated audiences worldwide. Making history, they became the first African and Arab team to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino previously expressed his admiration for Morocco’s performance, acknowledging that the North African nation represented not only Africa but also the Arab world.

Infantino highlighted the team’s qualification for the semi-finals, which some considered surprising but a testament to the players’ and coach’s experiences and abilities.

The impact of the World Cup has been significant for Morocco’s football culture, instilling a winning mentality within the Atlas Lions. They have carried this momentum into their friendly matches against formidable opponents.

In March 2023, Morocco achieved a momentous victory over Brazil with a 2-1 scoreline, becoming the first Arab team and the second African team ever to defeat the South American giants.

Additionally, they showcased their defensive prowess by securing a goalless draw in a game against Peru.
