Rabat – Chinese telecommunication company Huawei has taken a major step towards advancing Morocco’s energy transition effort with a new collaboration with the country’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE).
The partnership aims to boost the integration of renewable energy into the Moroccan electrical system, a testament to Huawei’s commitment to the country’s renewable energy and sustainability goals.
Sealed by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on July 18, in Rabat, the partnership seeks to harness innovative energy storage technologies to achieve widespread integration of renewable energies, indicated Huawei Morocco in a press release.
The MoU reflects the shared commitment of both partners to maximize the utilization of renewable energies through increased innovation in electricity storage. It combines Huawei’s global technological expertise with ONEE’s strategic vision, making it a pivotal player in Morocco’s energy strategy.
Powering Morocco’s green future
The collaboration opens up an abundance of possibilities for the energy sector in Morocco, including enabling better storage and distribution of renewable energies. This will ultimately allow the country to harness a greater portion of its renewable energy, reducing dependency on fossil fuels.
In addition, the MoU’s focus on mobilizing energy storage solutions will help efficiently integrate renewable energy sources into the electrical grid, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply.
Under the partnership, Huawei will provide ONEE’s Center for Electricity Science and Technology with advanced technical testing and demonstration laboratory equipment.
This facility will enable the design and implementation of pilot projects within ONEE’s electrical system, fostering continuous innovation and improving the performance of renewable energies in the country.
Successful outcomes of these projects can pave the way for larger-scale integration of renewable energies, supporting Morocco’s transition to a greener energy landscape.
The agreement also establishes a framework for technology exchange between ONEE and Huawei, facilitating the enhancement of technical skills and expertise in the sector and enabling even more effective collaboration.
