Rabat – The Moroccan pharmaceutical group Kenipharma has launched the construction of a specialized pharmaceutical manufacturing unit for anti-cancer drugs in the northwestern Moroccan city of Kenitra.

In line with the ongoing reforms within Morocco’s national health industrial system, the pharmaceutical unit is a significant milestone in the development of the Moroccan pharmaceutical industry. The initiative aims to enhance the country’s health sovereignty and strengthen its standing as a major hub on the African continent.

Minister of Industry and Trade, Riad Mezour, emphasized the importance of the project, stating that it signifies a crucial step towards advancing the national pharmaceutical sector. The initiative aligns with the strategic objective of promoting advanced technological activities and optimizing the utilization of anti-cancer drugs.

Under the Industrial Projects Bank, the Ministry of Industry and Trade recently introduced 96 new project opportunities, with 70 percent dedicated to the pharmaceutical industry.

These initiatives encompass various activities, including the development of calinic plant medicines, bioequivalence centers, medicines and bio similarities, organic technology, and medical products. The objective is to boost local production, which currently meets half of the domestic pharmaceutical demand.

Kenipharma, a renowned wholesale seller and distributor of medicines, entered the pharmaceutical manufacturing domain in 2019, focusing on the production of generic drugs, particularly anti-cancer medications, which are vital in chemotherapy treatments. The company’s extensive drug distribution positions it well to contribute significantly to the success of this pioneering project.

With the launch of this specialized manufacturing unit, Kenipharma aims to address the challenges of anti-cancer drug shortages, reduce costs, and elevate the quality of drug production in Morocco.

By embracing cutting-edge technologies and advanced methodologies, the company strives to establish itself as a reference producer of injectable anti-cancer drugs on the African continent.

The initiative not only promises economic growth and job creation but also holds the potential to positively impact lives of those fighting cancer by ensuring a steady supply of high-quality anti-cancer medications.
