Rabat – Morocco’s national team has reaffirmed their athletic prowess on the international stage, clinching a total of seven medals, including three gold at the 2023 Parathlet World Championship, which was held in Paris from 8 to 17 July.
With this outstanding performance, the Moroccan national team secured a commendable 20th position out of the 107 countries that participated in the event.
The final gold medal for Morocco was earned by Zakariae Derham, a Paralympic and world champion, in the shot put (F33) discipline. Derham’s exceptional skills and determination propelled him to victory, solidifying his status as one of the best athletes in his category.
Ayoub Sadni and Fatime Ezzahra El Idrissi, the other two gold medalists, demonstrated exceptional athletic prowess by setting world records in their respective events. Sadni triumphed in the T47/400m race, while El Idrissi dominated the T12/1500m event.
Their achievements not only secured gold for Morocco but also showcased the country’s depth of talent in Parathletics.
The Moroccan team’s success extended beyond gold medals, with two silver medals also adding to their tally.
Mouncef Bouja displayed commendable speed and skill in the T12/100m race, securing the silver for his country. Meanwhile, Youssra Karim impressed the world with her prowess in the F41/discuss event, earning silver medal for Morocco.
Rounding out Morocco’s medal count were two bronze medals. Oumaima Oubraym demonstrated her skill in the F32/club throw, securing a bronze for her country. Similarly, Saida Amoudi’s noted performance in the F34/shot put event earned her a well-deserved bronze medal.

The Parathlet World Championship is one of the most prestigious international Paralympic competitions, second only to the Paralympic Games.
Serving as a crucial qualifier for the upcoming 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, this event held special importance for all participating athletes. The championship was organized under the auspices of the international governing body, World Para Athletics, ensuring fair competition and adherence to the international standards.
This extraordinary performance is a testament to the dedication and tireless effort put forth by Moroccan para-athletes, as well as the continued support provided by the coaches and the nation as a whole.
