Rabat – The Moroccan weather office is expecting the current heatwave to continue in several provinces across Morocco.

According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, temperatures will vary between 37 and 48 degrees Celsius between Wednesday and Friday.

Temperatures of 45 to 48 degrees are expected in the provinces of Fquih Ben Saleh, Beni Mellal, Chichaoua, El Kelaa des Sraghna, Rehamna, Marrakech, and Tata on Wednesday and Thursday.

The same weather will affect Taroudant, Agadir Ida Ou Tanane, Assa Zag, Es-Semara, as well as Aousserd and Oued Addahab.

A red weather alert notice, warning of temperatures between 42 and 45 degrees, will concern the provinces of Jerada, Oujda Angad, Taourirt, and Guercif, all of which are in the Oriental region, as well as other places near Fez, including Moulay Yacoub, Sefrou, Boulemane, El Hajeb, Meknes and Taza.

The same weather will persist in Taounate, Ouezzane, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Khenifra, Azilal,  Khouribga, Settat, Essaouira, Youssoufia, Al Haouz, Errachidia, Zagora, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Inzegane Ait Melloul, Tiznit, Guelmim, Tan-Tan, and Sidi Ifni.

Meanwhile, temperatures between 37 and 42 degrees will also hit the provinces of Tetouan, Khemisset, and the interior of Al Hoceima, Nador, Chefchaouen, Berkane and Driouch on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Friday, many of the aforementioned provinces will experience high temperatures, including Fquih Ben Salah, Beni Mellal, Chichaoua, Youssoufia, as well as others, including Tiznit, Guelmim, Tan-Tan, Sidi Ifni, Es-Smara, Zogra. In the interior of Boujdour, Aousserd, and Oued Ed-Dahab, temperatures are expected to reach between 43 and 46 degrees on the same day.

Data from the weather monitoring website Ogimet has ranked Morocco and neighbor Algeria as the top countries facing the highest temperatures on the African continent.

Cities in Morocco and Algeria were ranked among the top 15 spots with the most scorching temperatures on the already hot continent.
