Rabat – Oman declared its “unwavering” support for the territorial integrity of Morocco and recognized the autonomy plan as the fundamental solution to the longstanding dispute of Western Sahara.
In a joint statement issued following the sixth session of the Joint Committee between the two countries, Oman expressed appreciation for the Moroccan leadership’s wisdom in pursuing a peaceful approach that advances security and stability in the Maghreb region.
Oman acknowledged the initiative’s seriousness, realism, and credibility, emphasizing its potential to bring about a lasting resolution.
Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita welcomed the position of Oman in support of the territorial integrity of Morocco.
“I take this opportunity to highly appreciate the position of the brotherly Sultanate of Oman in support of the Moroccan Sahara and the territorial integrity of Morocco,” he said.
King Mohammed VI, the Moroccan people, and all the Kingdom’s forces “highly appreciate” Oman’s position in support of the Moroccan character of the Sahara, the Minister continued, noting that this position is not foreign to Oman, which participated with a high-level delegation in the Green March in 1975 when the Omani and Moroccan flags were raised alongside each other in Western Sahara.
Oman further commended Morocco’s King Mohammed VI for his unwavering commitment to promoting peace, development, and cooperation, both within Africa and internationally.
The meeting, chaired by Bourita and Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, the Omani Foreign Minister, served as a platform to reinforce the bond between the two nations and discuss critical regional matters.
The joint statement equally recognizes Oman’s exceptional role in establishing security and peace in the region and expresses the two countries’ willingness to reinforce the shared vision of fostering unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within the Arab world.
Emphasizing the importance of collective Arab cooperation, both parties reiterated the rights of Arab nations to safeguard their unity and sovereignty, while enhancing security and stability.
The joint statement stressed the values of solidarity, good neighborliness, and non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations, as well as the preservation of territorial integrity.
