Rabat – Moroccan boxer Mohammed Rabii, a world champion and Olympic bronze medallist, advanced to the finals of the AFBC African Boxing Championships in the men’s 75kg weight category.
According to a report from the International Boxing Association, Rabii secured a spot in the final stage of the competition after scoring a victory against Moro Diarra from Mali in the semi-finals.
Following his win against Diarra, Rabii will face David Tshama from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the final.
Mohamed Rabii reappears alongside Royal Moroccan Boxing Federation officials to announce his return to the national team ahead of the 2023 World Championships and 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Mohamed Rabii holds an impressive record of 10 victories in 10 professional fights. After a brief disappearance from the public, the Moroccan boxer is making his comeback to represent his country in major events.
In addition to Rabii, a number of other Moroccan athletes have scored impressive victories across different categories. In the women’s category, Moroccan boxer Yasmine Mouttaki also qualified for the final stage in the 48kg division and is set to face Algeria’s Fatiha Mansouri for the title.
Another Moroccan athlete scored a significant win in the continental competition. Widad Bertal won against Regina Macaringue from Mozambique in the women’s 54kg category.
In the finals, Bertal will face Algerian Fatma Abdelkader, who celebrated a victory over Kenyan boxer Amina Martha Faki.
