Morocco Triumphs in Athletics at Kinshasa 2023 Francophone Games

On Tuesday, Morocco bagged gold, silver, and bronze medals simultaneously in the women’s 1,500-meter event at the ninth edition of the Francophone Games, which runs from July 28 to August 6 in the capital city Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Morocco Triumphs in Athletics at Kinshasa 2023 Francophone Games

Rabat – On Tuesday, Morocco bagged gold, silver, and bronze medals simultaneously in the women’s 1,500-meter event at the ninth edition of the Francophone Games, which runs from July 28 to August 6 in the capital city Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). 

At the top of the podium stood Wafa Zaroual who set a record of 4 minutes 44 seconds 55 milliseconds. She was followed by Soukaina Hajji who recorded 4 minutes 44 seconds 98 milliseconds. In third place came Rababe Arafi who ran 4 minutes 45 seconds 42 milliseconds.

At the conclusion of the fourth day of competition, Morocco had won a total of 20 medals and occupied first place in the standings, with 8 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

The Moroccan athletes are among the 2,500 athletes aged 18 to 35, representing 88 countries in this edition of the Francophone Games.

In the 10,000 meters race, Soukaina Atanane claimed the gold medal in 33 minutes 01 second 25 milliseconds, while her compatriot Kaoutar Farkoussi grabbed silver in 33 minutes 11 seconds 67 milliseconds.

As part of the same competition, the Moroccan women’s national cycling team won with great style on July 30 after taking the top four spots in the individual cycling competition. 

On a strenuous 63-kilometer closed circuit, Salma El-Hariri claimed the gold medal with an remarkable time of 1 hour, 44 minutes, and 43 seconds.
