Rabat – Pope Francis has renewed his condolences to Morocco, which suffered from the strongest and deadliest earthquake in decades on Friday night.
Pope Francis made his remarks during the Angelus prayer on Sunday when he called for prayers for victims of the earthquake.
According to Vatican News, Pope Francis prayed for all victims — including the injured and those who died.
He also thanked the people involved in rescue operations.
“I thank the rescue workers and those who are seeking to alleviate people’s suffering,” praying that the “concrete aid of everyone sustains the people in this tragic moment.”
He also invited all people to show support for people in distress.
The earthquake killed at least 2,012 people while 2,059 were injured. The injured victims include 1,404 people in critical condition. That number stands as the official reported figure at press time.
Morocco is mobilizing rescue teams and civil protection at royal instructions, aiming to provide people in distress with needed humanitarian aid, including food, blankets, and tents.
