Rabat – Morocco’s Yassine Bounou has been nominated for another prestigious recognition, with the Moroccan featuring on the list of players competing for the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award.

FIFA announced the news today, listing Bounou alongside Real Madrid and Belgium star Thibaut Courtois, Brazil’s Enderson, Andre Onana from Cameroon, and Germany’s Marc Andre ter Stegen.

The former Sevilla superstar, who now plays for Saudi club Al-Hilal, is also nominated for two other awards.

On September 6, Bounou appeared on the list of nominees for the Prestigious Yachine Trophy, a prize awarded by France Football to the best-performing goalkeeper of the year.

The nominees also include Andre Onana, Marc Andere Ter Stegen, Enderson, Emiliano Martinez, Courtos, and others.

On the same day, Bounou featured on the list of Ballon d’Or nominees alongside a number of other world-class footballers, including Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian mbappe.

Bounou gained immense popularity during Morocco’s appearance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they finished fourth and became the first Arab and African team to qualify for the competition’s semi-finals.

Many attributed the Moroccan success to key Atlas Lions, who showed eye-catching performances during the competition— including Bouniu.

“I thank destiny for giving me this opportunity,” Bounou said in a previous interview with FIFA+ in March, stressing that he is ready to experience potential “incredible” future experiences with the Atlas Lions in World Cup and other continental and world competitions.
