Rabat – Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has sent a message of thanks to the leaders of the Qatari and Emirati rescue teams who have assisted with search and rescue efforts in the regions affected by the September 8 earthquake.
The King addressed letters of thanks to Major General Ali Al Matou, leader of the Emirati rescue team, and Major Khalid Abdullah Al Hamidi, leader of the Qatari team, expressing thanks on behalf of the Moroccan people.
In his letter to the Qatari team’s leader, the King expressed thanks for the team’s “chivalrous and generous” participation in the rescue efforts, stressing the team’s competence and professionalism.
The monarch concluded his letter by saying that the Qatari team’s “noble efforts” reflect the brotherly ties between Morocco and Qatar.
In his letter to Al Matou, the King wrote that the Emirati team’s participation in the rescue efforts left “a big and deep impact on us and on the Moroccan people as a whole.”
He extended thanks on behalf of the Moroccan people to the rescue team and expressed that the participation again embodies the close ties between the two countries. He also extended gratitude to all members of the rescue team.
Qatar and the UAE were among the first countries to offer aid to Morocco in the aftermath of the September 8 earthquake, which has left over 2,900 dead.
