Rabat – Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), said that the unanimous decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee to choose Morocco as the host nation for the CAN-2025 African Cup of Nations is the pinnacle achievement of the development process overseen by King Mohammed VI for more than two decades in a variety of fields.

Following the CAF Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday in Cairo, Lekjaa stressed that this decision also demonstrates that Morocco is prepared to host significant athletic events in the finest circumstances.

“Today, Morocco has the honor to organize the next edition of the African Cup of Nations, with African unanimity and without the slightest debate,” the president said.

“It is the crowning achievement of tremendous work carried out by a Great King. It is also the best reward for a nation passionate about football,” he added.

He went on to say that Morocco’s hosting of the CAN-2025 is just the beginning of the country’s efforts to host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

In this respect, Lekjaa stressed that the Kingdom will make this event “a renaissance of Mediterranean civilization between the north and south of the Mediterranean,” noting that the African continent will join forces behind Morocco to win the bid, which is also an African bid.

For his part, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, congratulated Morocco on its nomination to host the 2025 AFCON.

“I’m proud of Morocco,” said Motseppe, expressing his admiration for the Kingdom’s potential for organizing major sporting events.

Last February, Morocco welcomed several African journalists on a “media tour” to highlight its infrastructure and organizational capabilities to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The tour primarily served to demonstrate that Morocco satisfies all CAF standards in terms of stadiums, training grounds, accommodations, and health infrastructure to host the African football event.
