Rabat – Elements of the judicial police in Mohammedia arrested on Sunday evening an individual with a criminal record, for alleged possession and trafficking of a newly developed drug called “Lpoufa.”

The 42-year-old suspect was arrested in flagrante delicto for possession of 200 grams of “Lpoufa” drug, bottles used to consume the drug, 20 doses of cocaine, 67 psychotropic tablets, a set of edged weapons, and a plastic pistol, which would have been used to threaten and perpetrate physical assaults, a security source said.

The suspect was placed under judicial investigation by the Mohammedia judicial police, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, in order to elucidate the details of this case, as well as to arrest potential accomplices in this criminal affair, the same source added.

This operation conducted by the police is part of the ongoing efforts to combat drug and psychotropic drug trafficking in the country, more particularly “Lpoufa.”

Also named “the poor’s cocaine” for its affordable price, Lpoufa is a drug composed of cocaine and hazardous chemical products smoked especially by young people.

“This drug interacts directly with the brain to produce a very pleasant effect of relaxation and relief for the user,” explained the Moroccan psychiatrist Hachem Tyal, as cited by SNRTNews.

“Lpoufa has an immediate effect. A few minutes after smoking the drug, the user feels very pleasant. Because the effect is immediate, the descent is also very rapid, which pushes consumers to ask for more,” Tyal added.

The Moroccan police have intervened in numerous cases of drug trafficking, the latest of which was on July 19 when a 27-year-old man was arrested in Kenitra for being suspected of drug possession and trafficking.

The authorities were able to arrest the suspect at the Kenitra highway toll station shortly after he arrived in a little car from a city in northern Morocco.
