Rabat – Renault, a European car manufacturing giant, announced plans to start manufacturing its new Kardian model at its Casablanca factory (SOMACA) by the second half of 2024.
The French company made the announcement while unveiling the New Kardian at the Curitiba plant in Brazil, explaining that manufacturing in Casablanca marks the second phase for the production of the model, according to a report from Le360.
Renault is set to leverage its network of industrial complexes to manufacture the new model at the 13 industrial sites across major markets, including in Latin America, Turkey, North Africa, Gulf countries, and the Indian and Asia Pacific region.
The SOMACA plant is both “high-performing” and “flexible.” The manufacturing of the New Kardian at the SOMACA plant reinforces Morocco’s role as a major industrial platform for the Group, the company maintains.
Morocco is currently the largest market for Renault Group, with over 14,000 units sold in the first quarter of 2023.
The group holds a staggering 38% market share in Morocco. Renault Group’s overall sales at the end of the first quarter of 2023 totaled 535,000 units, with an impressive 14% year-on-year rise.
The group has been operating a large manufacturing plant in Tangier since 2012. In 2017, they celebrated the production of the millionth vehicle at the Renault-Nissan plant in Tangier.
In March of 2023, the group announced plans to manufacture its first hybrid model, the Dacia Jogger, in its Tangier plant in northern Morocco in the second quarter of 2024.
The new production line is expected to produce up to 120,000 units and marks a precedent for Morocco in the manufacturing of hybrid cars. Converging reports indicate that the production is set to use thirty robots for the assembly operations.
