Rabat – The Moroccan Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs has uncovered the origin of a forged document that prohibited preachers from discussing Palestine in the country’s mosques. The ministry disclosed that the document, previously attributed to its authority, was fabricated by a non-Moroccan entity.

The ministry issued a statement today saying that the fake document had been exposed as a blatant forgery due to a variety of tangible evidence. Notably, the document’s lack of conformity with recognized correspondence rules and its linguistic and semantic discrepancies pointed to its inauthenticity.

The ministry unequivocally denied the document’s authenticity and went on to emphasize that it was indeed a counterfeit.

It revealed that a Moroccan website had initially spread this misinformation, attributing it to what it termed “mosque overseers” in the Tangier region. The ministry, citing the baseless nature of the claims, chose not to respond to the site’s allegations.

Instead, the ministry issued a warning to religious officials, cautioning them about the presence of external actors seeking to undermine Morocco’s commitment to the Palestinian cause and to defending the sanctity of the Al Aqsa Mosque.

The ministry condemned this behavior and described it as a “political failure” and a “crime against religion.”

These allegations occurred on the backdrop of increased attacks against Palestinians by the Israeli military.

Since the new cycle of violence began on October 7, Israeli aggression has claimed the lives of more than 5,700 Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank and injured more than 17,000.

The Israeli offensive has also caused massive damage in Gaza, destroying nearly 17,000 residential units and rendering 10 of Gaza’s 35 hospitals inoperational.

Morocco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Israel’s attacks, notably its bombing of a hospital in Gaza, which killed at least 500 people, including displaced individuals seeking shelter.
