Rabat – Moroccan footballer Adam Aznou expressed disappointment over his exclusion from Morocco’s squad for the U-17 World Cup, which will take place in Indonesia in November.

The head coach of Morocco’s U17 Atlas Lions, Said Chiba, released the list of the 25 called-up footballers on Monday.

The called-up Atlas Lions will take part in a preparatory campaign for the upcoming tournament.

Aznou, who announced earlier this month his decision to represent Morocco instead of Spain, was notably absent from the list.

“Very happy to be part of the Morocco national team again,” he said earlier this month.

On Monday night, however, the 17-year-old player expressed astonishment after not finding his name among the 25 players taking part in the preparatory campaign for the World Cup.

The 17-year-old, who plays for German club Bayern Munich, took to social networks to express his disappointment, confirming that he will not take part in the global tournament with the Atlas Lions.

“The coach has other plans and is not counting on me,” he said,  adding that he “really wanted and was very excited to be able to play in the World Cup.”

“But I won’t have this opportunity,” he said, adding that he was disappointed but respected the coach’s decision.

Wishing good luck to the Atlas Lions, Aznou also denied any “bad behavior” or “extra sporting problems” that could be behind this exclusion. He finished his social post with “Dima Maghrib,” or “Morocco Forever.”

Aznou has been making international headlines as one of the most promising and talented youngsters in football, with several specialized outlets viewing him as one of the top talents in his age bracket.

Sports-focused outlet Goal said that the player as the best in his position within FC Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy.

Aznou joined Bayern Munich last year, despite attempts from FC Barcelona to secure his services.
