Rabat – The Spanish Ministry of Labor, Migration, and Social Security has reported that over 309,000 Moroccans were registered in the social security system in Spain at the end of September 2023, making them the highest contributing foreign workers outside the EU.
According to data published by the Spanish ministry on October 17, Moroccans remain at the top of the list, followed by Colombians with 171,982 and Venezuelans with 146,126.
Meanwhile, the data indicated, the total number of foreigners registered in the Spanish social security system reached 2,686,990 in the first nine months of 2023.
Foreign workers contributing to Spanish social security totaled 1,805,216 from non-EU countries and 881,774 from EU countries.
Over the last twelve months, the number of foreign workers registered in the Spanish social security system has risen by 9.4%, or 230,971 more employees, according to the same source.
As of July 2022, the Spanish social security revealed 285,000 Moroccans were registered in Spain, making them the largest foreign labor force outside the European Union.
In recent times, Moroccans have consistently been at the top of the list of foreigners affiliated to the Spanish social security system.
In April 2022, about 300,000 Moroccans signed up for the country’s social security program.
Chinese and Venezuelan citizens were the next largest groups to sign up, representing 108,795 and 108,765, respectively.
