Rabat – Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 160 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since early Saturday morning, Al Jazeera quoted medical sources as saying.
The escalation of violence in Gaza is a retaliatory response to an earlier large-scale attack that Hamas launched on Israel, killing at least 40 Israelis and injuring hundreds of others.
According to the Palestinian News Agency WAFA, the Israeli military conducted a series of intense airstrikes conducted targeting various areas in Gaza.
The Al-Shejaeya neighborhood to the east of Gaza City faced substantial destruction, leaving at least one Palestinian dead and many others injured, some severely.
The airstrikes struck the eastern area of the neighborhood, unleashing a barrage of missiles and causing widespread devastation.
Reports from WAFA correspondents shed light on the tragic events, highlighting the alarming toll on civilian lives and infrastructure within Gaza.
Further aerial strikes targeted agricultural land and a site in Beit Lahiya, a town in the northern Gaza Strip. Though no casualties were reported in these specific attacks, the airstrikes intensified the already tense situation in the region.
Following Hamas’ deadly attack, the Israeli military said it is “initiating a large-scale operation to defend Israeli civilians against the combined attack launched against Israel by Hamas this morning.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a state of war readiness, saying: “We are at war, and we will win.”
