Rabat – A ship transporting cargo of phosphoric acid belonging to the OCP Group, Morocco’s leading phosphate exporter, narrowly escaped a pirate attack in the Gulf of Aden.

The incident unfolded on Sunday, November 26, in the Gulf of Aden, a strategic waterway known for piracy threats.

The US Navy successfully intercepted and apprehended the attackers who attempted to hijack the vessel.

The cargo ship continued its journey towards India, its final destination, while the assailants were captured by the US Navys, according to local media report.

The foiled attack took a dangerous turn when two ballistic missiles were launched from Yemen, dangerously close to an American warship dispatched to aid the imperiled cargo vessel.

As the events unfolded, maritime security firm Ambrey reported that the assailants briefly gained control of the tanker on Sunday.

However, prompt action by the United States  thwarted their efforts, with the US military’s Central Command confirming that “the crew of M/V Central Park is currently safe.”

The Gulf of Aden has historically been a focal point for maritime piracy, posing risks to global trade and the safety of commercial shipping. The attack remains unclaimed by any group at present.
