Rabat – In a recent communication to its employees, Bank of America (BofA) declared its support for Israel amid the state’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

BofA’s statement, which painted Israel as the victim, has raised eyebrows and triggered outrage among some employees and observers, who criticized the bank for its biased stance and disregard for the plight of Palestinians.

“The horrific acts of terrorism that have occurred in Israel are deeply saddening, and are reverberating throughout our communities across the globe,” said the bank in its statement.

Bank of America’s statement,  which was obtained by Morocco World News, also announced a commitment of $1 million in funding to “support those impacted in Israel.”

In addition, the bank mentioned the availability of programs and services through the Employee Assistance Program, which includes 24/7 access to confidential counseling for its employees and Israel and their “loved ones.”

“We are here to support our employees in Israel and all those around the world with family and friends who are experiencing personal impacts,” the statement said.

The bank has ignited widespread controversy for its labeling of Palestinian resistance fighters as terrorists, as well as its lack of acknowledgment of the suffering of Palestinians, particularly those living in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Many employees at the bank are of Palestinian origin, and they were quick to voice their discontent with what they saw as a heavily biased and insensitive response from their employer.

One glaring omission in the bank’s communication is the absence of any reference to the humanitarian facing the Palestinians. The Gaza Strip has, for decades, endured severe hardship, with limited access to basic necessities, medical care, and infrastructure due to the ongoing blockade.

The new cycle of violence has exacerbated the already dire situation, as the Palestinian death toll from the Israeli offensive surpassed 9,150 casualties.

In addition, the attacks have injured more than 24,000 Palestinians, who are struggling to access healthcare after Israeli aggression rendered 16 of Gaza’s 35 hospitals inoperational.

In contrast to its support for Israel, Bank of America’s communication notably omitted any reference to Gaza or the Palestinian population, let alone any announcement of concrete measures to aid the affected Palestinians.

Critics argued that this bias in support raises questions about the bank’s ethical stance regarding the Gaza crisis, as well as fuels suspicions of support for Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza.

Adding to the frustration, the bank turned off the employees’ comment section on the communication, preventing them from expressing their discontent with the company’s statement.
