Muslims in the US are gearing up to stand against Joe Biden’s re-election campaign in response to his blind support for the Israeli occupation forces’ aggression in Gaza.
US-based news outlet Axios reported on Saturday that Biden’s support for Israeli aggression could trigger anger that could impact his re-election prospects in key states.
The news outlet suggested that Muslim American leaders from many states, including Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, Wisconsin, Florida, and Georgia are among the ones backing the #AbandonBiden campaign.
“This #AbandonBiden2024 conference is set against the backdrop of the upcoming 2024 presidential election and the decision to withdraw support for President Biden due to his unwillingness to call for a ceasefire and protect innocents in Palestine and Israel,” Axios quoted the group of Muslim America leaders as saying.
The goal is to strengthen social media presence and use it to promote the campaign.
The group knows that not supporting Biden could result in the re-election of former president Donald Trump who is not a favorite for muslims in the US either.
“We recognize that, in the next four years, our decision may cause us to have an even more difficult time. But we believe that this will give us a chance to recalibrate, and the Democrats will have to consider whether they want our votes or not,” organizer of the campaign Jyalni Hussein told the outlet.
Biden stirred controversy and anger among Muslims and non-Muslims alike, who condemned his unequivocal support for Israel despite its bloody war against Palestinians in Gaza.
The anger intensified as Biden continued to stand against a ceasefire, reiterating support for Israel’s self-proclaimed right to self-defense.
The #AbandonBiden campaign has also caused a divide on social media. While many see it as a good cause, others have opposed it, fearing the re-election of Trump.
“#AbandonBiden His Brain abandoned him years ago!” a commenter on X, formerly Twitter, said.
Another one shared a video of Biden, sarcastically criticizing the US President.
“No need to #AbandonBiden. He’s gone. Long gone,” they said.
Others, however, are sharing Trump’s controversial speeches, suggesting that not voting on Biden could make the situation worse.
“Abandon Biden for this? I don’t think so unless you want to end democracy,” one said.
Others shared achievements made by the Biden administration, denouncing the campaign.
Another user said on X: “#AbandonBiden? Why? Because he’s doing a great job?”
They also shared an infographic touting the “record-breaking Biden economy.”
