Rabat – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has said that Wydad AC’s newly hired coach Faouzi Benzarti “must instantly work his magic to revive the faltering fortunes of a fallen African giant,” highlighting the team’s recent woes both domestically and continentally.
CAF cited Benzarti’s previous achievements in managing to help the team achieve league and CAF Super Cup glory.
He must now live up to expectations and make it out of the group stage for the CAF Champions League, with Wydad currently sitting in third place in their group with only a single win.
On Friday, Benzarti and the entire team traveled together to the Tanzanian city of Dar es Salaam to face off against Simba SC. The game is set to take place on December 19 at 2:00 p.m. Moroccan Time at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.
This unsatisfactory start to the team’s CAF Champions League campaign has led the club to part ways with coach Adil Ramzi.
“Wydad Sports Club, headed by Saeed Nassiri, announces that it has parted ways with coach Adel Ramzi by mutual consent,” the club announced in a statement on Saturday.
“The executive office of the club and all its members, especially its fans, extend their sincere thanks to coach Ramzi for everything he has done, and his keenness to lead the football team with sincerity and effort,” the statement added.
Benzarti is taking over for the fourth time, as he previously coached Wydad in 2018, during the 2018/2019 season, and in the 2020/2021 season.
