Rabat – Moroccan police arrested infamous singer Dounia Batma for her involvement in the “Hamza mon bb” case.
Converging reports said the singer was arrested today in Casablanca following an order from the attorney general at the court of appeal in Marrakech, ruling for implementation of the one-year prison sentence handed against Batma for her involvement in the “Hamza mon bb” case.
This is part of an ongoing case as the singer was first sentenced at the Marrakech Court of Appeals in January of 2021.
The court previously sentenced the controversial singer to eight months in prison in July 2020. The singer, however, appealed the decision.
In its latest verdict in 2021, the court added four months to Batma’s original sentence.
Despite the verdict, the singer was not jailed and has continued her activities, including singing at weddings, private parties, and clubs, in addition to releasing albums.
Yet, in a new turn on the case, the criminal chamber of the Court of Cassation in Rabat announced last year its rejection of the singer’s new appeal against the verdict.
Earlier this month, Batma filmed herself tearfully appealing for King Mohammed VI’s pardon on Instagram.
The singer claimed she was the target of a conspiracy that aimed to end her artistic career. She also claimed she was the victim of an “assassination attempt” after her car was targeted with a stone near a bridge near Kenitra.
She said her ex-husband Mohamed Turk is involved in the conspiracy targeting her, accusing him of leaking her secrets and acts in exchange for money.
The notorious “Hamza mon bb” case refers to a social network account that was active on Instagram and Snapchat, which used to share indecent photos, videos, and other content that sought to undermine people’s privacy.
The singer and her sister Ibtissam have been linked to the case and for their involvement in accessing personal data to disseminate people’s private conversations and pictures through online applications without the victim’s consent.
