The newly initiated Casablanca route operates via the Boeing 777-200F cargo aircraft, which boasts a payload capacity exceeding 100 tons, the company said in a statement.
Commenting on the news, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group Mesfin Tasew heralded the development as a pivotal move into the Maghreb region, fortifying the global freighter network.
Tasew expressed his enthusiasm, stating: “The launch of freighter services to Casablanca signifies a new chapter for us. It amplifies our commitment to providing reliable and efficient services.”
“As the largest cargo network operator in Africa and a global air cargo service provider, Ethiopian Airlines remains dedicated to expanding its services worldwide, facilitating global trade,” he added.

The Ethiopian carrier is the third company to announce expanding operations in Morocco over the past few months. As Morocco prepares to hold the 2030 World Cup in a joint bid with Spain and Portugal, it appears carriers are looking to bank on the anticipated rise in demand that coincides with the event.
In December 2023, Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair disclosed a $1.4 billion investment plan to bolster its presence in Morocco. Ryanair said that it is set to increase flights to 1,100 weekly flights across 175 routes, featuring 35 brand-new connections.
In the same month, Jet Luxe, a luxury travel airline, announced plans to enter the African market by venturing into Morocco.
