Rabat – The National Judicial Police Brigade apprehended an individual in Deroua, Berrechid province, on Tuesday, following  intelligence provided by the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

Acting on intelligence from the DGST, Moroccan law enforcement executed a targeted operation in Deroua, Berrechid province, leading to the apprehension of an individual involved in a suspected drug and psychotropic trafficking network.

The operation aimed at combating the illicit trade, notably focusing on the notorious substance “L’poufa,” resulted in a significant haul, including 125 doses of the substance, 195 psychotropic tablets (Rivotril), 580 liters of spirits, and a collection of 12 bladed weapons, as confirmed by official sources.

The raid also uncovered additional evidence, with the seizure of 30 mobile phones, nine watches, two computers, and a sum of 66,550 dirhams, believed to be the proceeds from illicit activities.

The suspect is currently in custody, pending investigation, under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office. Authorities are  working to shed light on all alleged criminal activities attributed to the suspect and to uncover potential links to a broader criminal network.

This recent operation comes on the heels of a successful joint effort between Moroccan law enforcement and Spanish security services. One week prior, when authorities thwarted an international drug trafficking operation, seizing  1,488 kilograms of cocaine at the Tanger-Med Port.

In an earlier operation on January 1st, Moroccan authorities intercepted another significant shipment of narcotics. This time, over 362 kilograms of cocaine were seized at the El Guergarate border crossing, south of Dakhla, in a joint operation carried out by National Security and Customs.

The continued success in intercepting large drug shipments reflects the dedication and proficiency of Moroccan law enforcement in tackling the complex challenges posed by international drug trafficking networks.

As Morocco intensifies its efforts to combat drug-related crimes, recent operations serve as a testament to the effectiveness of intelligence-driven interventions and collaboration with international partners.
