Rabat – The Moroccan national football team carried out its second training session on Tuesday at the Auguste-Denise Stadium in San Pedro, less than a week before their participation in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
“This session was essentially based on the technical and tactical aspects,” the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) revealed in a statement on Tuesday.
Moroccan goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid described the training atmosphere as “positive” and talked about the team’s readiness for the first match on January 17.
“Training is taking place in a positive atmosphere. We are motivated and looking forward to the first match,” Benabid said during the training camp.
His teammate, Sofyan Amrabat, emphasized the squad’s desire to achieve the best results possible.
“We are training very hard to be ready for the games. Everybody knows that the CAN is not easy,” Amrabat stated, promising the fans to deliver a “special” performance better than that of the World Cup in Qatar.
The Atlas Lions will play a friendly match against Sierra Leone on January 11 at the Auguste-Denise Stadium in Cote d’Ivoire.
The continental tournament will kick off on January 13 and Morocco sits in Group F alongside Tanzania, DR Congo, and Zambia.
Morocco’s two other group stage matches will be played against DR Congo and Zambia on January 21 and 24 respectively.
