Rabat – The British Prime Minister’s special trade envoy to Morocco, Rob Butler, highlighted on Thursday in Rabat the undeniable potential for growing commercial connections between the two countries.
This marks the minister’s first bilateral visit to Morocco, which is scheduled between February 29 and March 1.
“Bilateral trade totalled almost £3.5 billion last year. This is a real illustration of the potential opportunities that exist between the two countries,” Butler told the media after holding talks with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Foreign Minister.
The British minister said that the two kingdoms could expand their commercial connections in a number of areas, with green energy offering “enormous potential for both our countries.”
London and Rabat “enjoy an extremely important relationship” marked by strong commercial potential, Butler argued, pointing out that trade may serve as a catalyst for society’s advancement and the creation of wealthy nations in addition to economic progress.
Butler’s visit demonstrates the UK’s desire to deepen its economic connections with Morocco, especially in the areas of trade and investment. Notably, the British official explored prospects for collaboration in a variety of fields, including infrastructure, aerospace, healthcare, agriculture, and education.

Ahead of his visit, Butler said he looked forward to “working closely with the Moroccan government to drive bilateral trade and investment to unlock jobs, growth, and commercial opportunities for Moroccan and UK businesses.”
Meanwhile, the British embassy emphasized in a statement Morocco’s significance as a major trading partner, noting the North African country’s objective to increase its cooperation with all stakeholders at various levels.
Butler’s visit comes a few days after the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA), the UK government agency in charge of infrastructure and major projects, visited Morocco on February 19 to discuss possible partnerships in infrastructure development projects.
During that visit, Javier Encinas, Deputy Head of International at the IPA, Javier Encinas, told Morocco World News that the UK delegation’s primary objective was to have a deeper understanding of the aims and objectives of the Moroccan government when it comes to large-scale project development and infrastructure.
